Jacana awarded first ever CLA Tier 2 Processing License

Jacana is pleased to announce that it has formally received its Tier 2 Processing License from the Jamaican Cannabis Licensing Authority (CLA). As the first company to be awarded the license, the milestone allows Jacana to continue with its ambitious expansion plans both on island and internationally.

The Tier 2 Processing License allows the processing, extraction and manufacturing of cannabis for medical, scientific and therapeutic purposes in facilities of over 200 square meters. The 10,000 square foot facility enables Jacana to produce standardized cannabis extracts via CO2 and ethanol technology, as well as for a range of products including full spectrum resin & extracts, distillates and other derivatives.

Jacana’s state of the art facility has been purpose built for the internationally recognised EU-GMP quality standard and designed by world leading experts. As the largest cannabis extraction facility on island, this key milestone allows Jacana to push forward with obtaining the internationally recognised EU-GMP certification, which is expected next year.

The pioneering cannabis company is now primed to supply for the growing demand for extracts in the international cannabis landscape, which has been growing significantly faster than the flower market in the last two years. At maturity, it is expected that the extracts market is expected to comprise half of the Canadian market, according to GMP Securities.

Alexandra Chong, CEO, said: “I’m incredibly proud of our team that has created history in achieving the first Tier 2 Processing License from the CLA. We have laid the foundations for a global cannabis platform that is able to cultivate, extract and distribute a variety of products domestically and internationally.”

“Jamaica has a unique history with the cannabis plant, and we are focused on ensuring the country is a key player in the burgeoning medical cannabis industry through its unequivocal commitment to international quality standards.”
